During Your Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a time of great joy and the prospect of a new life being added to the family will fill you with excitement and apprehension. Conception and pregnancy bring enormous changes, from the hormonal and physical ones to the mental and emotional changes involved in making the transition to motherhood. Yoga can help us to adapt to these changes by increasing our vitality, reducing stress levels, and helping us develop a close relationship with the baby inside long before he or she is born.

Eat nutritious, well-balanced meals made up of foods from the five major food groups: breads, cereals and other grains; fruits; vegetables; meat, fish, poultry and protein alternates; and milk, yogurt and cheese. Avoid certain foods which may contain harmful bacteria such as paté, liver, soft cheeses and undercooked eggs and avoid peanuts. It is a myth that calcium is lost from the mother’s teeth during pregnancy.

Although most pregnancies are problem free there can be pregnancy complications. If you are ever worried, or in doubt, then make an appointment to see your doctor. It’s important to understand the optimum conditions for conception before attempting to get pregnant and be aware of pre-pregnancy considerations – from a good diet and exercise regime to diet supplements and a healthy attitude.

Today not too many women die needlessly from complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Some common complications like miscarriage , bleeding during pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy and morning sickness do occur and I’ll cover these in more depth in later posts.
